ABOUT  SMOOTH  DECORATOR

Smooth Decorator is an independent publication and creative studio exploring interiors, art, design, objects and place, bringing together editorial, collecting, creative practice and commissioned work under one roof.

The Journal looks at the rooms, objects, artists, designers and places that shape how we live. Alongside it, the Shop offers a changing collection of vintage finds, art and work by independent makers, while the Watchlist gathers pieces worth knowing about from dealers, galleries, designers and brands.

The Studio is the commissioned side of the practice, working across set decoration, sourcing, interiors, styling, creative direction and visual research. Across all of these areas, the same interests return: rooms with character, objects with history, thoughtful making, good research, and the pleasure of developing an eye.

Smooth Decorator publishes original writing and research across interiors, art and design. Our editorial work is developed in-house and with selected contributors, with a focus on informed research, independent curation and a distinct point of view.

WHAT  WE  DO

THE JOURNAL

Stories on interiors, art, design, objects, places, and people.

THE SHOP

THE WATCHLIST

Furniture, art, and objects found elsewhere and worth knowing about.

THE STUDIO

Sourcing, interiors, creative direction, visual research, and set decoration.

A  WAY  OF  LOOKING

We are interested in things that reward attention: a room assembled overtime, an overlooked piece of furniture, the hand of a maker, a building shaped by its surroundings, or an object whose history is still visible in its surface.

Smooth Decorator exists to look more closely, share what we find, and create opportunities to experience art and design beyond the screen.
