African Carved Soapstone Thinker Figure Abstract Sculpture 16.5cm

A hand-carved soapstone figure, 16.5cm tall, depicting a seated contemplative form — knees drawn up, arms wrapped around the legs, head bowed. The body is carved in smooth, flowing lines with everything unnecessary removed, while the head retains a deliberately rougher texture, the tool marks left visible as a contrast to the polished curves below. The form sits somewhere between African soapstone carving tradition and mid-century modernist figuration. Unknown maker. The piece has real weight to it and sits solidly — it’s the kind of object that reads differently depending on where you put it. Good condition. No chips or damage. Minor surface wear consistent with age. Height: 16.5cm
