Cherry Raulston Original Watercolour Stone Bridge Figures Framed 53 x 43 cm

An original framed watercolour signed Cherry Raulston in the lower right corner. The subject is a stone bridge or viaduct — substantial dressed stonework with a broad arch — with a river or estuary in the foreground, rocky outcrops, and a figure fishing on the bank. Mountains visible in the distance under a wide, well-handled sky with cumulus cloud. The palette is cool and atmospheric: grey-blue stonework, pale water, warm ochre rocks, and a soft blue sky. The painting is accomplished and confident — the stonework is rendered with real attention to texture and structure, and the sky has the kind of loose, assured washes that come from proper practice. Cherry Raulston is not a widely recorded name in exhibition databases, suggesting a skilled amateur or regional artist rather than a listed painter, but the work stands on its own merits. Presented in a white-washed wooden frame with a double mount in taupe and cream. Frame and painting in good condition. Nothing on the reverse. Frame dimensions: approximately 60cm wide x 50cm tall. Estimated date: Late 20th century.
