Vintage Atkinson Jones Lustreware Ceramic Sculpture, Iridescent Studio Pottery
A striking vintage Atkinson-Jones ceramic sculpture, slab-built in porcelain with an iridescent lustreware interior. This unusual piece of British studio pottery has a sculptural crescent or half-moon form with stepped concentric ridges, shifting between silver, blue, green and gold in the light. Atkinson-Jones is a working studio producing handmade lustreware from the East Sussex coast. Each piece is unique, made by fusing layers of silver, gold, and other precious metals onto porcelain in a process requiring multiple kiln firings. The studio has a strong collector following and pieces are not widely available on the secondary market. This is a more sculptural piece than their typical bowl or vase forms — the stepped interior ridges add an architectural quality that makes it work equally well as a wall piece or a flat display object. Signed to the base. Good condition, no chips or damage.
