Shop the Mood: Arts & Crafts

The easiest way to bring Arts & Crafts into a modern home is not to recreate a period interior, but to borrow its instincts: natural materials, visible craftsmanship, botanical pattern and objects that feel chosen rather than coordinated.

Think dark timber softened with linen, hand-thrown ceramics beside warm brass, leafy prints against plain walls, and lamps that cast a low, amber light. The effect should feel layered and lived-in, with enough irregularity to stop it becoming too polished.

For this edit, I’d look for pieces that feel tactile and enduring, things with grain, texture, weight and a sense of the maker’s hand, mixed with one or two stronger patterns to give the room character.

01. Patterned textiles

02. Warm wood

Its dark brown finish and chunky turned profile give it the weight and visible craftsmanship that sit naturally with Arts & Crafts interiors, especially against patterned textiles and warm brass.

Graham & Green Handcarved Wooden Tiger Side Table - £345
The hand-carved animal form brings exactly the kind of decorative craftsmanship, individuality and slightly eccentric naturalism that makes Arts & Crafts-inspired rooms feel collected rather than overly polished.

Made from warm mango wood with a distressed finish and natural variation in the grain, it fits the Arts & Crafts emphasis on honest materials and furniture that feels substantial, tactile and made to age well
03. Handmade-feeling ceramics

Smooth Decorator Vintage Signed Studio Pottery Bowl - £32
The uneven form, individual glaze and maker’s mark give it a genuine workshop-made quality, making it a particularly strong fit for the Arts & Crafts belief in useful, beautiful objects shaped by the hand rather than mass production.

Anthropologie Textured Large Vase — £52
Handmade in Portugal from terracotta, its irregular textured surface and sculptural handles fit the Arts & Crafts emphasis on visible making, natural materials and objects with individual character.

Smooth Decorator Vintage West German Glazed Pottery Piece, possibly Bay Keramik - £26

04. A shaded lamp

John Lewis Penbury Floral Pleated Tapered Lampshade, Avocado/Ochre - £22.50
The gathered floral fabric, ochre-green palette and contrasting border give this the strongest Arts & Crafts feeling of the six, bringing botanical pattern and traditional textile detail straight into the lighting. It’s currently reduced from £5

William Wood Cordelia Dark Wood Pleated Shade Table Lamp - £159
The dark sculptural wood base and softly pleated shade give it the warm, crafted and slightly ornamental feel that works beautifully in an Arts & Crafts interior, especially alongside botanical textiles and darker timber furniture.

Nkuku Pambani Photo Frame, Antique Brass - £42+
